Michelle Corbin is a Sr. Talent Acquisition (TA) Specialist at Thrive SPC who first began her career as a nurse. Discover more about Michelle and how her personal experience with home health care influenced her career at Thrive SPC.
“It started with my dad when he got sick, and I knew healthcare was not something I had thought about at the time, but, because of that journey, I dove right in,” Michelle says. She witnessed the compassion and empathy her dad’s nurses showed to him and everyone in her family and realized she wanted to dedicate her life to doing something just like that.
Michelle started as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), then went to school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), worked in a long-term care center, and eventually found her place with in home care with Thrive SPC, where she worked as an LVN until becoming a Talent Acquisition Specialist.
When Michelle worked at a long-term care center, she felt something was missing. She didn’t have enough time to connect with her patients and get to know them. However, when she found Thrive SPC, everything seemed to click into place. “My love for kids and wanting to do one-on-one care brought me to Thrive SPC,” she explains. “Here, I could put everything I have into caring for those kids without worrying about the million other things that could happen in a long-term care center.”
During Michelle’s time as an LVN, her Location Director believed she would make an excellent Talent Acquisition Specialist due to her love for communicating with people. This passion continues to shine through when she’s speaking to nurses interested in working at Thrive SPC. With her experience working as a nurse, she can relate to other nurses and share her wisdom. “I’m able to communicate with the nurses, understand what they’re looking for, and actively listen to what they want,” she says. “Because at the end of the day, from nurse to nurse, I help them get into the direction they want to go.”
Michelle is always transparent during these conversations, offering insight when a nurse has questions or reservations about being the only healthcare provider for a patient or working in the home versus a hospital or long-term care center.
As Michelle looks back on her career, she’s proud of the work she’s done and the relationships she’s made, and also grateful to have this opportunity to help people. “The journey of it has been full circle,” she explains. “From the journey with my dad and then and then taking care of kids [as a nurse]. Even in this role [TA Specialist], being able to connect with nurses to take care of those kids, is what I want wholeheartedly for everybody. At the end of the day, those kids are being taken care of in their homes. Families can rest. They can go to sleep soundly knowing that there’s a nurse taking care of their child.”
