As a Pediatric Home Care Nurse, it’s important to continue growing professionally and personally. A great way to grow and get yourself excited for the new year is through setting goals.
Studies show that 80% of New Year’s Resolutions fail by the start of February because many people set resolutions that have unrealistic goals. However, to set your own resolutions up for success, you should create SMART goals— these are goals that are Specific (focus on a single topic), Measurable (use metrics to track progress), Attainable (realistic and achievable), Relevant (related to your well-being or development), and Time-bound (have a completion date).
Here are some starting ideas for New Year’s Resolutions in 2025.
As a Pediatric Home Care Nurse, you spend a lot of your time caring for your patients and putting their needs first. However, it’s important to remember your needs as well to avoid burnout or compassion fatigue. Self-care can be anything from watching your favorite comfort movie, going outside in nature, getting more than seven hours of sleep, trying a digital detox, spending time with friends or family, or trying out therapy. You must incorporate self-care into your day-to-day life whether it’s one hour, thirty minutes, or even five minutes. By working on your own happiness, you will be able to provide even more quality care to your patients. At Thrive SPC, we value our employees’ time offering flexible scheduling and generous PTO for teammates working 36+ hours.
Nursing organizations offer several different benefits, including:
There are a lot of great national nursing organizations such as The American Nurses Association, the National League for Nursing, and the Society of Pediatric Nurses. There may be others in your local area. Ask a colleague for recommendations or spend a few minutes doing some online research.
Pediatric nurses often have long shifts where they are on their feet providing physically demanding tasks for their pediatric patients. It’s vital to be physically healthy to effectively care for young patients. Start by eating a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables. Incorporate meal prepping at the start of every week to set you up for success. Also, try to exercise more often, whether it’s working out in a gym, doing some stretching first thing in the morning, or going for a walk. Exercise helps both your physical health and mental health.
No resolution is too big or too small. What’s most important is that you set attainable goals. If one of your resolutions is to grow your career, think about joining Thrive SPC. Learn more at https://www.thrivespc.com/careers/.
