Thrive Skilled Pediatric Care Conroe, TX teammate, Karen DeDominicis, RN, BSN, was named Camp Nurse of the Year by the Association of Camp Nursing (ACN) for her work as Carolina Creek Christian Camps Health Services Coordinator.
According to Camp Operations Director Jeremy Eden, DeDominicis organized Carolina Creek’s three health centers and built the health program from the ground up.
In DeDominicis’ nomination for the award, it was noted that she “provided sound leadership and a professional voice when it came to developing and implementing policies and procedures we needed to keep our camp as safe and healthy as possible [during the pandemic]. We had no confirmed COVID cases among our campers and guests. … She is a hero in our book!”
“Like so many of our nurses, Karen provides care to many,” according to Scheduling Coordinator Kendall Barker, who works with her at Thrive SPC. She works 10-hour days three days a week with her Thrive SPC patient and also works as a consultant at the Camp. “Karen is a caring, compassionate nurse and a valuable part of our team, focused on providing high quality clinical home care to medically fragile children so they can grow and flourish to their full potential.”
“I absolutely love what I do as a camp nurse,” said DeDominicis. “I love the peaceful and fun environment. It’s a great opportunity to work with all sorts of children in many different ways. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I am overjoyed at receiving this recognition.”
“More recently, I have had the opportunity to work for Thrive SPC. I love the flexibility of the schedule and being able to now take care of children in their homes and at camp,” she said.
DeDominicis also writes articles geared toward camp nurse and is a past winner of ACN’s Susan Baird CompassPoint Writing Award for excellence in writing and publication about camp health.
