Home Health Aide (HHA) and LRI HHA in Albuquerque

Thrive SPC in Albuquerque has offered Home Health Aide as a service option for our patients since we opened in July 2018. Many of our families use a combination of nursing services and HHA to meet the care needs of their medically fragile child, and all families agree Home Health Aide is a very valuable service. Beginning in July 2024, our state approved hiring Legally Responsible Individuals (LRIs) to care for their children, and shortly thereafter, Thrive SPC begain hiring parents as HHAs.

As a Home Health Aide, our caregivers predominantly provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, grooming, meal prep, oral care, transfers, and skin care. Due to current state policies, our HHAs may only provide unskilled care, and we are working with state leadership to update these policies.

The majoirty of our HHAs who are not legal guardians are family friends and relatives hired at the request of the patient family. Thrive SPC does not currently hire community members unless it is expressly at the request of the patient family, and this familiarity provides for great satisfaction with services as our HHAs are well acquainted with the patients under their care.

Our HHAs verbalize their satisfaction with employment as it provides them a unique opportunity to help their loved ones juggle the demands of care for a medically fragile child, and our LRI HHAs feel the same. LRI HHA Jean states, “I have never been able to have a full-time job as my child requires full-time assistance. I am now able to earn an income and be eligible for employee benefits which has given us great peace of mind.”

All families in New Mexico who qualify for PDN nursing services through their EPSDT benefit may elect to use HHA services, and Thrive SPC is able to hire parents as LRI HHAs provided they are deemed as the best fit for care. As the home health agency with the greatest consistency and longevity offering HHA and LRI HHA services in our area, we are confident that we have the best training and support to ensure best outcomes for our patients and the greatest satisfaction for our staff. Contact us today to find out more about HHA and LRI HHA services.
